Day
9: Queenstown to Fox Glacier
Today it is a roller coaster ride towards the West Coast and over
the Haast Pass. The Mt Aspiring National Park is the heart of
the South West New Zealand World Heritage Area, a world cultural
heritage equated from the UNESCO with the Grand Canyon, Great
Barrier Reef, Mt Everest etc. Then we'll reach the west cost with
its impenetrable rainforest and the best motorbike road you can
imagine - endless bends, less traffic and a breathtaking scenery.
After we arrive at Fox Glacier you can go on a helicopter flight
over the Southern Alps and the Glaciers.
Day 10: Fox Glacier to Punakaiki
Winding roads take us further up the West Coast to Punakaiki.
The landscape is unique with the rough Tasman See on your left
and the deep green bush and rainforest on your right hand side.
The Pancake Rocks are just a few minutes away from our present
destination and a distinctive place to visit.
Day 11: Punakaiki to Nelson
Today's leg along the west coast from Punakaiki to Charleston
and Nelson is another spectacular stretch with twisty roads and
fascinating scenery trough the Buller Gorge and the inner land.
Day 12: Nelson
You have time to explore the Abel Tasman National Park , join
a kayak tour, or visit some of the golden beaches in the region.
Day 13: Nelson to Martinborough
The winding Queen Charlotte Drive that takes us from Nelson to
Picton is one of the Highlights of this tour. From Havelock to
Picton one curve follows another one and behind every corner you
have a different spectacular view over the bays of the Marlborough
Sounds. In Picton we take the ferry across to the North Island.
It is a very scenic cruise through the Cook Strait before getting
off in Wellington, New Zealand's capital city. The delightful
little town Martinborough is noted for its many vineyards - there
are more than 30 of them located in the immediate vicinity. The
town is home to one of the most magnificent little boutique hotels
that you'll experience during the trip - the Martinborough Hotel.
The hotel is located on the town's main square and includes a
lively bar and an elegant dining room.
Day 14: Martinborough to Wanganui
Through wide farm land and vineyards our route will take us today
on the way to Wanganui on the west coast.
Day
15: Wanganui to Rotorua
From Wanganui we ride to Rotorua alongside the Whanganui River
via the twisty H4 and pass the foothills of the Whanganui National
Park. After 50km we reach the Tongariro NP with a great view to
the three still active volcanoes. They by the way made the location
for Mordor in the film trilogy 'The Lord of the Rings'. The next
highlight is Lake Taupo, the biggest freshwater lake of New Zealand
and a paradise for trout. We follow the edge of the lake and reach
Rotorua in the afternoon. This city is famous for its geothermal
activities and the still present Maori culture. Here you can explore
geysers, hot springs and bubbling mud holes before we visit a
traditional Maori concert.
Day 16: Rotorua to Coromandel
Amazing bush scenery and wonderfully winding roads lead us back
to the coast and to the Coromandel Peninsula. It is known for
its breathtaking scenery, great roads and unique landscape and
you also have a chance to dig you own pool at the Hot Water Beach.
Our destination today is the small town Coromandel on the western
side of the Peninsula where we stay in a historical hotel only
a short stroll from restaurants, cafes and shops.
Day 17: Coromandel to Whangarei
We almost circle the Coromandel Peninsula by following its coastline
down the west coast. The Pacific Coast Highway takes us to Auckland,
and onto Whangarei.
Day 18: Whangarei to Russell
Today we will follow the east coast north towards the famous Bay
of Islands. It is not possible to describe this road - you simply
have to ride it!
Day
19: Russell (Bay of Islands)
Enjoy a free day in the Bay of Islands, where you can participate
in anything that has to do with water, such as boat cruises, swimming
with dolphins, whale watching, kayak tours, etc. But you can also
go on some fantastic day rides!
Day 20: Russell to Auckland
Via the Kauri Forest, where you can visit the largest Kauri tree
in the world, we ride back to Auckland.
Day 21: Depart Auckland
We return bikes and transfer to airport for your return flight.
Or stay on a bit longer - we are happy to arrange post-tour accommodation
for you!
